Toronto Maple Leafs forward Matthew Knies will be a game-time decision for Monday’s game against the Minnesota Wild, head coach Craig Berube confirmed.
Knies and William Nylander were both absent from the Leafs’ morning skate.
“It’s obviously bothering him a lot, for quite some time, and hasn’t really got much better,” Berube said of Knies receiving maintenance. “Other than whether he gets some breaks, Christmas time, he comes back and feels better. It’s an ongoing issue.”
Maple Leafs forward William Nylander is out indefinitely with a groin injury. Berube did not provide a timeline for Nylander’s return. Nylander aggravated his existing injury during Thursday’s loss to the Vegas Golden Knights.
“I don’t know how long the timeline will be for him,” Berube said of Nylander. “When he feels good enough to get on the ice, and he goes out there and skates, and feels good, I expect him to be back fairly quick then. Until then, I’m not sure when he’s going to be on the ice.”
Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz took part in an individual session, before the morning skate commenced. Stolarz is working his way back into action, overcoming a nerve issue that has kept him out of the lineup since a November 11 game against the Boston Bruins. Berube said Stolarz will need a few more practices, before he can formally return to the lineup.
Jacob Quillan was called up from the AHL’s Toronto Marlies. Quillan has not recorded a point in three games with the Maple Leafs this season, but he’s been an effective scorer at the AHL level, registering eight goals and 27 points in 28 games with the Marlies.
Joseph Woll is the projected starter for Monday’s game. Woll has posted an 11-4-3 record with a .914 save percentage in 19 appearances this season.
