Roundtable: Buyers or sellers at the trade deadline?

The trade deadline is coming up soon, and we’re all very… excited for it? Nervous? Afraid?
Mostly, we’re kind of unsure how the Leafs will approach things.
So we asked our staff: Should the Leafs be buyers or sellers at the trade deadline?
Scott Maxwell
Neither, just stand pat. The Leafs are too good to sell off their UFAs, so unless someone offers them two 2nds for Polak again, I wouldn’t bother. But they aren’t good enough to make buying at the deadline worth the assets that’d be giving up. Unless it’s something big like a Mike Green, or really small like a better 4th line center, I’d rather the Leafs just ride this team into the playoffs and see what they have.
Connor Bromley
I think we need an open minded approach. If something great comes up then go for it. If one of the contending teams offers a top prospect and a first for JVR it would seem silly not to sell.
I trust Lou to make the right decisions. I would argue that standing pat is the best way to go.

why the fuck would they sell lmfao?

Here’s my supremely exciting take on the situation: Work with what you’ve already got. I don’t think the org is ready to go all in this year, even though that would definitely be fun. Would I like a Mike Green type? Yeah, but it’s not like acquiring Green will get Polak out of the lineup so like… it is what it is. And I lowkey like both Bozak and JVR so I’m down to ride out the rest of the season with them. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Anyway, if we’re being honest, Jake leaving the game the other day gave me the scare of a century and I realized that I’m not ready for change.
Dylan Fremlin
I’d more or less stand pat. Gauge the market on komarov and plug leivo into his spot on the fourth line if you can get anything for him. If not, just move Komarov to c on that line and replace Moore with Leivo. I wouldn’t be too eager to mortgage the future for a rental this year assuming they’ll have to get past both the bruins and the lightning in the first two rounds.
