It was a battle of rookie goaltenders at Scotiabank Arena on Tuesday night as Joseph Woll took on Jet Greaves. Both had solid performances but it was Woll who came out on top. Greaves made 46 saves in his NHL debut. Zach-Aston Reese continued his scoring ways. Below are the highlights from the game.
Aston-Reese opened the scoring. Justin Holl picked up a loose puck on the right wall, skated down low and feathered a pass to Aston-Reese in front. He one-timed it top shelf. 1-0 Leafs…
In his first game since April 26th, Noel Acciari made his presence felt early by finishing his check on Tim Berni in the corner…
The Blue Jackets tied it up on just their second shot of the game, 12:22 into the first period. Jack Roslovic finished a pretty passing play with a wicked wrist shot from the slot. 1-1…
There was a scary moment early in the second period. Kirill Marchenko stepped on Mitch Marner’s leg. Luckily, Marner would be okay…
Later in the middle frame the Leafs took the lead. Nick Abruzzese nearly had his first career goal but he was robbed by his fellow rookie Greaves. Alex Kerfoot followed the play and finished the rebound to make it 2-1…
Auston Matthews looked for an insurance marker in the third. He toe dragged around Andrew Peeke and drove the net. His backhand went wide…
Toronto’s lead doubled a few minutes later. It was the red-hot Aston-Reese again. He tipped Jake McCabe’s point shot past Greaves. Half of his ten goals this season have came in the last ten games. 3-1 Leafs…
Eric Robinson started the comeback for the Blue Jackets. He flew down the wing and beat Joseph Woll to make it 3-2. That was as close as Columbus would come. Matthews added an empty netter. 4-2 Leafs final.
