The Maple Leafs have announced their 50-man training camp roster on the day it begins.
Rasmus Sandin isn’t on the list to begin Maple Leafs training camp and he won’t join the team until he signs a contract.
The obvious players are the ones who suited up for the NHL club — or any NHL team for that matter last season. The forward names include Nick Abruzzese, Nicolas Aube-Kubel, Michael Bunting, Kyle Clifford, Adam Gaudette, Calle Jarnkrok, David Kampf, Alex Kerfoot, Mitch Marner, Auston Matthews, William Nylander, Nick Robertson, Joey Anderson, Alex Steeves, and John Tavares.
Jordie Benn, TJ Brodie, Carl Dahlstrom, Mark Giordano, Justin Holl, Victor Mete, Jake Muzzin, and Morgan Rielly are the defencemen names. The goaltenders who’ve played NHL games within the last year have been Erik Kallgren, Matt Murray, and Ilya Samsonov.
Denis Malgin reportedly signed with Toronto earlier this summer although no formal announcement was made. He’ll be entering Maple Leafs training camp as one of the 28 forwards.
There are nine players entering Maple Leafs training camp who suited up for at least one game for the Toronto Marlies last season on NHL deals. Those players include Semyon Der-Arguchintsev, Pavel Gogolev, Curtis Douglas, Max Ellis, Pontus Holmberg, Bobby McMann, Filip Kral, Mac Hollowell, and Mikko Kokkonen.
Also among the camp invitees are three players who’ve been drafted by Toronto but haven’t played a professional game within the organization yet.  Fraser Minten, William Villeneuve, and Axel Rindell make up that short list.
Dylan Ferguson and Zach Aston-Reese are the only two players coming into Maple Leafs training camp on a PTO.
Even some players on AHL contracts are getting a chance to show at Maple Leafs training camp. Joseph Blandisi, Logan Shaw, Graham Slaggert, Noel Hoefenmayer, Tommy Miller, Marshall Rifai, Keith Petruzzelli, and Dryden McKay are among the AHL-signed players joining the NHL camp.
Finally, there are four injured players ahead of camp, and those include Mikhail Abramov, Pierre Engvall, Timothy Liljegren, and Joseph Woll.
Maple Leafs training camp begins today, Wednesday, and throughout will have seven exhibition games before the regular season begins on October 12th. The opponents in the seven games will consist of the Ottawa Senators, Detroit Red Wings, and Montreal Canadiens.
The first game will be played on September 24th and it’ll be a double-header between the Maple Leafs and Senators. Both games will take place at Scotiabank Arena with the first set at 1PM and the second at 7PM ET.
Toronto’s camp will get underway Wednesday with on-ice sessions beginning on Thursday and it’ll be exciting to see what storylines come out of the almost three-week event.
