The Guy Boucher fit in Toronto never really made sense: Leafs Morning Take

The Stanley Cup Final is headed back to Sunrise.
What a performance for the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday night with the season on the line. Ultimately, the numbers are still heavily in Florida’s favour, but never say never, especially with Connor McDavid in the fold.
That’s where we kicked off the Monday edition of Leafs Morning Take. Did the 8-1 drubbing hurt Sergei Bobrovsky’s chances of winning the Conn Smythe Trophy? Who’s the front runner? Does McDavid have a chance at it even if the Oilers lose the series? Over the next couple of days, we should finally get some answers. The Panthers built a commanding lead, and now, we’ll see if they can end it —on home ice, no less.
Presented by Greta Bar YYZ, we had yet another Mitch Marner conversation. On Monday morning, TSN’s Darren Dreger raised some eyebrows during his appearance on First Up with Aaron Korolnek and Carlo Colaiacovo when he speculated that Brad Treliving could be more open to extending Marner than trading him. At this point, it feels like everything could be on the table. Rest assured, the next few weeks should be mighty interesting. This is a soap opera.
After that, we discussed Guy Boucher’s departure. On Saturday morning, the Leafs announced that the 52-year-old would not be back next season. Boucher was in Toronto for just one season. He ran the power play. The Leafs ranked seventh in the NHL in the regular season before completely bombing (yet again) in the postseason. Seriously, how do you go from 24% to 4.8%? Make it make sense, please.

Meantime, we debated Chris Tanev vs. Brandon Montour. If the Leafs had to choose between the two in free agency, who should they grab? Additionally, we discussed Nikita Zadorov and Dakota Joshua, two guys who finished the season with the Vancouver Canucks. At this point, there’s already been a billion players linked to the Maple Leafs. We’ll see how it all plays out on July 1.
Carter Hutton will fill in for Jay Rosehill on the Tuesday edition of Leafs Morning Take. Join us at 11 AM ET as we preview Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final!
