Toronto Maple Leafs picks set for 2020 NHL Draft

The Toronto Maple Leafs now officially know where they will be drafting as the order has been set for the 2020 NHL draft.

Toronto holds one pick in the first round, 15th overall, which was acquired in the @Kaspari Kapanen deal earlier this month. The club’s original first-round pick, 13th overall, was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes in the Patrick Marleau deal.

In the second round, Toronto will draft 44th overall and the Leafs hold no selection in the third round, which was traded to Colorado in the @Nazem Kadri deal.

Toronto holds two fourth-round picks — their own at 106th overall and Vegas’ at 122nd overall acquired in the @Garrett Sparks trade. Toronto traded their fifth-round pick in the @Michael Hutchinson deal, but they have a 5th round pick from Vegas, 153rd overall. That pick was acquired in the @Robin Lehner three-way deal.

In round six, Toronto holds three picks: their own at 168th overall, Carolina’s at 177th overall and Colorado’s at 180th overall. The Carolina pick was acquired in the Marleau deal while Colorado’s was acquired in the Kadri deal.

The Leafs also own three picks in the 7th round: San Jose’s pick at 189th overall, Minnesota’s at 195th overall and St. Louis’ at 212th overall. Toronto’s pick was traded in the Marleau deal.

San Jose’s pick was acquired in the @Eric Fehr deal, Minnesota’s was acquired through Winnipeg in the @Fedor Gordeev deal, while Toronto acquired St. Louis’ pick at last years draft.

The draft is set to kick off at 7 p.m. EST next Tuesday. Here is the procedure for how the full draft order was decided:

Picks 1-15: Determined by Phases 1 and 2 of 2020 NHL Draft Lottery

Picks 16-27: Teams eliminated in Rounds 1 and 2 of 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs, in inverse order of 2019-20 regular-season points percentage

Picks 28-29: Teams eliminated in 2020 Conference Finals, in inverse order of 2019-20 regular-season points percentage

Pick 30: Team eliminated in 2020 Stanley Cup Final

Pick 31: 2020 Stanley Cup champion

Picks 1-7: Teams who did not participate in the Return To Play, in inverse order of 2019-20 regular-season points percentage

Picks 8-15: Teams eliminated in 2020 Stanley Cup Qualifiers, in inverse order of 2019-20 regular-season points percentage

Picks 16-27: Teams eliminated in Rounds 1 and 2 of 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs, in inverse order of 2019-20 regular-season points percentage

Picks 28-29: Teams eliminated in 2020 Conference Finals, in inverse order of 2019-20 regular-season points percentage

Pick 30: Team eliminated in 2020 Stanley Cup Final

Pick 31: 2020 Stanley Cup champion
