Getting recognized for your hard work is a nice feeling. In a year where Mitch Marner, Auston Matthews and William Nylander have been getting all kinds of recognition, Nazem Kadri has been forgotten.
This is despite the center being well on his way to getting career highs in multiple categories. His offensive and defensive talent should be recognized with some of the best in the league.
For now, he will have to deal with being second star of the week in the NHL. His six points in four games are a fantastic mark. It looked like it was his turn to impress the rest of the hockey world.
Not to mention he is currently riding a four-game point streak, Kadri is going to start getting more recognition. This past week is only just the start. He has recently broken his career high in goals and is going to soon do the same in points.
His current point total of 46 is good enough to put him in a tie for third place in scoring on the team. Much like James Van Riemsdyk, whom he is tied with, the team’s current renaissance shouldn’t be solely attributed to the rookies; some select veterans need recognition as well.
While he may not keep up his current power play goal scoring rate, adding him as a weapon onto that unit has added a different dynamic for the team.
As the stretch run approaches the Leafs will need weeks like this to put them over the hump. Considering how he has played this year, don’t discount him from doing just that and exceeding everyone’s collective expectations.
