Colton Sissons will sign with the Toronto Maple Leafs, The Fourth Period’s David Pagnotta reports. Terms of the deal are undisclosed at this juncture.
Sissons recorded six goals and 11 points in 66 games with the Vegas Golden Knights last season, operating in a fourth-line role en route to their appearance in the Stanley Cup Final. The 32-year-old is widely expected to play a fourth-line centre role with the Maple Leafs, and he sports the versatility to be placed on the wing, if need be. Although he sported a -9 rating at 5-on-5, Vegas controlled 51 percent of the expected goals when he was on the ice at 5-on-5.
Toronto is overhauling its entire roster, with a need for secondary scoring and pace among its forwards. Sissons won 57 percent of his faceoffs during the playoffs, and he is a willing shot-blocker who plays with physicality. This certainly bodes well for a Maple Leafs attempting to make a serious run at the playoffs, after missing the postseason for the first time in a decade.
Sissons will now slot in on the fourth line, where he could be placed alongside Steven Lorentz and Dakota Joshua, among other options. Toronto selected Gavin McKenna with the first overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, who will provide an immediate jolt to the team’s first line. Maple Leafs general manager John Chayka made several trades, primarily to address the blue line, where he acquired Darren Raddysh in a sign-and-trade, then signed the star defenceman to an eight-year pact.
It’s been a busy start to Canada Day, as the Maple Leafs traded forward Nick Robertson to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for a 2028 fourth-round pick on Wednesday morning. Robertson spent his entire career with the Maple Leafs, but ultimately afforded him a change of scenery, while Toronto considers new pieces, including Sissons, to round out its forward corps.
