Marlies win! Andreas Johnsson wins the Butterfield Trophy despite missing the first two rounds of the playoffs! Marlies should have had a shutout but in fact Texas received a pity goal from the officials!
Luckily, the Marlies were better than the refs and put together a dominant performance in the AHL’s first Game 7 in nearly a decade and a half.
AND SO… WE’RE CALDER CUP CHAMPIONS! For the very first time your Marlies are Calder Cup Champions!
HERE IS A QUICK SUMMARY.
GOAL ONE:
The first goal came courtesy of — who else — Andreas Johnsson, who dove across the slot to pounce on a loose puck ten minutes into the game.
GOAL TWO:
Imagine leaving some guy all alone in the slot in a Game 7 with only a few seconds standing between you and intermission. Mason Marchment buries for the 2-0 lead.
Mueller ➡️ Moore ➡️ Marchment. #ThisIsMMMore #MarliesLive
THE SAVE: GARRET SPARKS EDITION
This was reviewed for what felt like an entire period and a half, but ultimately the no-goal call on the ice was confirmed. Stick taps to Calle Rosen for the assist.

GOAL THREE:
Wave your Swedish flags — Andreas Johnsson finds Carl Grundstrom. Bingo, 3-0.
A Swede connection early in the third. #MarliesLive
WE’RE NOT SHOWING YOU THE TEXAS GOAL BECAUSE IT WASN’T ONE.
GOAL FOUR:
Andreas Johnsson again. MVP. MVP.
Andreas Johnsson with his 3rd point of the night on this goal. 4-1 Marlies.
GOAL FIVE:
I honestly sometimes forget about Ben Smith but I’m not forgetting him now!!
ITS OVER! 5-1! THE CAPTAIN SEALS IT! #MarliesLive
GOAL SIX:
I can’t find an easily accessible gif or video of Mason Marchment’s second goal but BELIEVE ME, IT HAPPENED.
CONGRATULATIONS, BOYS. WELL DESERVED.
