A fourth-line center that only scored 12 points on the year is one of the biggest free agent names available on July 1.
It appears that the Toronto Maple Leafs are in the running to land Jordan Weal when free agency begins.
According to TSN’s Darren Dreger, Weal is meeting with many clubs including the Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Vancouver Canucks.
Weal scored eight goals and four assists while also posting a 55% Corsi at even strength. He shouldn’t elicit a big contract but is enough of a name that teams are competing for his services.
For a team like the Maple Leafs that play more of a run and gun style, the 5’10” Weal could be right in their wheelhouse. It should be encouraging to the Maple Leafs that he is keeping it in Canada. He would be a great get for any prospective contender.
